Is This Really Alanis Morissette’s First Christmas Album?

Yes—with one important qualification. Good Weather for Immaculate Conception is Alanis Morissette’s first full-length Christmas album, but it is not her first collection of holiday music. The 14-track release, scheduled for November 6, 2026, brings together a seasonal catalog she has been building since 2020 while adding new songs, collaborations and familiar Christmas standards.

That distinction resolves the apparent contradiction. Morissette has released Christmas singles before, and she issued a four-song holiday EP in 2023. What she had not released was an album-length seasonal project.

What “First Christmas Album” Actually Means

Rolling Stone Canada, SPIN, Pitchfork and JamBase have described Good Weather for Immaculate Conception as Morissette’s first full-length holiday album. Epiphany Music and Virgin Music are releasing the 14-track collection.

Calling it her first Christmas album is therefore accurate in the conventional sense: it is her first seasonal release presented as a full-length album. Calling it her first holiday release would be incorrect.

The difference comes down to format. Morissette’s earlier Christmas output consisted of individual recordings and a four-song EP. The new project packages 14 tracks as a full-length LP.

Morissette had already completed the first two steps. Good Weather for Immaculate Conception takes the third, turning several years of Christmas recordings into an album-sized statement.

The Holiday Catalog Began in 2020

The path to the album started with Morissette’s version of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” released on November 27, 2020. Qobuz lists the recording as an Epiphany Music release, and Morissette’s official YouTube channel published its accompanying video on the same date.

Two years later, she added “Little Drummer Boy.” American Songwriter and iHeart reported that the recording was released on December 9, 2022, expanding what was beginning to look like a recurring seasonal series rather than a one-time experiment.

In 2023, Morissette gathered four holiday recordings into the Last Christmas EP. Apple Music and Spotify date the EP to November 3 and list “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” “Little Drummer Boy,” “What Child Is This” and “Last Christmas” as its four tracks. NME and Exclaim! later covered her performance of the title song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Another piece arrived on December 19, 2024, with “O Holy Night,” documented by Apple Music and Spotify. By that point, Morissette had spent several Christmas seasons steadily adding to the same corner of her catalog.

Those releases matter because their titles now appear on the announced album sequence. “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” “Little Drummer Boy,” “What Child Is This?,” “Last Christmas” and “O Holy Night” are all included on Good Weather for Immaculate Conception.

The new album is therefore better understood as a culmination than a sudden turn toward Christmas music.

What the Full Album Adds

The earlier recordings provide a foundation, but they do not account for the complete project. The announced track list expands the collection to 14 songs, combining established seasonal material with two new original songs.

Those originals are “To an Empath at Christmas Time” and “Christmas on the Dancefloor,” according to Rolling Stone Australia, SPIN and JamBase. Their titles point toward two different sides of Morissette’s writing: one reflective and emotionally attentive, the other more outwardly celebratory.

The album also includes “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem,” “Ave Maria,” “River,” “Momma Mary,” “O Tannenbaum,” “Silent Night” and “Merry Christmas,” among other selections. Together, the songs draw from sacred music, pop-era holiday favorites and material that has become associated with the season without fitting neatly into the traditional-carol category.

That range gives the album more purpose than a simple repackaging of previous singles. It places Morissette’s existing Christmas recordings inside a larger sequence and surrounds them with enough additional material to change how the collection functions.

A Guest List Built Around Distinctive Voices

The first available preview is “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem,” released on October 9, 2026. Rolling Stone Canada, SPIN and JamBase identify Brandi Carlile and Steve Martin as featured artists on the track.

Their presence leads a wider group of collaborators. The announced track list credits Amythyst Kiah on “Momma Mary,” Trans Voices on “O Tannenbaum,” Joy Oladokun on “Silent Night” and Martin Short on the closing song, “Merry Christmas.”

It is an unusually varied group, spanning singer-songwriters, roots musicians, a vocal ensemble and performers also widely known for comedy. That variety fits an album assembled across different holiday traditions rather than one confined to a single musical style.

Complete performance and production credits have not yet been established across the available sources, so the safest description is also the simplest: these artists receive featured billing on their respective songs.

Brandi Carlile’s Appearance Has Recent Context

Carlile’s appearance also connects the holiday project to a significant moment in Morissette’s career. The Songwriters Hall of Fame inducted Morissette at its June 11, 2026, gala. The organization and the Associated Press report that Carlile performed “Uninvited” with SistaStrings before introducing Morissette.

That ceremony recognized a body of songwriting still defined for many listeners by Jagged Little Pill. Released on June 13, 1995, and created with producer and co-writer Glen Ballard, the album became Morissette’s international breakthrough. Recording Academy records show that it won Album of the Year and Best Rock Album at the 1996 Grammys, while “You Oughta Know” won Best Rock Song and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.

The holiday album does not need that history to justify itself, but the timing is notable. Months after Morissette received one of songwriting’s major institutional honors, she is introducing a seasonal album that contains original material alongside well-known standards.

One Release-Date Detail Remains Unclear

The announced release date is November 6, 2026. SPIN, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone Canada, JamBase, HMV and Tower Records all report that date.

Apple Music, however, displays October 9, 2026, on its 14-song album page. That is also the date Rolling Stone Canada and JamBase give for the release of the preview track “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem.” The Apple page does not explain why it applies that date to the album listing.

Until the metadata aligns, November 6 is the date supported by the announcement coverage and physical-retail listings, while October 9 is confirmed as the preview track’s release date.

So, is this really Alanis Morissette’s first Christmas album? Yes: it is her first full-length holiday album. But it is not the beginning of her Christmas catalog. It is the moment when nearly six years of seasonal recordings and an earlier EP become part of a complete 14-track collection.
